Week beginning 20th October 2025

We have been very engaged at Pre School, we have been utilising the garden whilst the weather has been fair. We have been playing "Whats the Time, Mr Wolf?" enjoying the sand and doing lots of music and movement. The children have been busy in our construction area and are really engaged with the free choice of equipment, enabling them to work together and share resources.

We have reintroduced a breakfast club for the children, we are offering toast and a range of healthy cereals, we have gluten free and dairy free options available and the children are relishing the responsibility of self serving their breakfast! The children are also being encouraged to self serve at snack time, and we are encouraging lots of lovely language and makaton to relay what they would like to eat and drink, and discuss healthy choices.

We have been doing large scale book activities, where the children match the items from the story on the fuzzy felt board, such as "The Hungry Caterpillar" where they have to select the corresponding foods for him to eat! This encourages listening and good recall skills, and the children enjoy using the fuzzy felt to make their own stories, and use the different packs to make different pictures or to match shapes and numbers.

We have done lots of group activities, we have done large craft, where we have made pumpkins this week for Halloween, and the children have had a little sweet treat to take home. We have been doing "Silly Soup!" where the children can choose the ingredients and mix it slowly or quickly, encouraging turn taking, and identification of objects for ingredients for the soup!

We have been using lots of resources for encouraging small motor movements, from threading to tap a shape, the children really like using a hammer to tap the pins in to hold their shapes in place for their creations, and we have had lots of fantastic chatter about which shapes to use, and which shapes are similar to each other, and what we can use them for.

Hope you all have a fantastic half term break and enjoy Halloween and we return to pre school on Monday 3rd November, for Christmas Countdown!
