We have had lots of fun at Pre School this week, we celebrated Chinese New Year by making snakes for the year of the snake. We also did a cooking activity and made a stir fry. The children helped to prepare the ingredients and then assisted in the cooking. We then ate the stir fry for lunch, this went down very well, some had seconds, then thirds!
We have continued to incorporate maths in our activities, discussing bigger, smaller, how many and noticing shapes as we play. The children really liked the threading activity, and were really engaged in counting their beads and noting which shapes they wanted to put on their string next.
We have been doing large group activities, using different types of painting, from string painting, blowing the paint with straws, to using pipettes to drip and mix colours, the children loved getting messy and were really good at identifying the colours they made.
We have started making pretty craft for Valentines Day, we attempted glue hearts, putting lots of sparkles with glue in a cutter, but this did not go to plan, so we adapted and made hearts from cotton pads using food colouring, making pretty patterns as the pads absorbed the colours.
We have also introduced snack helpers, so the children take turns to assist in the preparation of snack by helping to cut the fruit and vegetables, this is working really well and gives them the opportunity to be involved with snack, gives them independence, enables healthy choices and to follow instruction with a risky play activity .
