We have been doing lots of fun activities at Pre School, our theme last week was "Supertato!", so we created our own evil peas using paper plates, we then chased some real evil peas with tweezers, which enabled hand eye coordination and lots of concentrating to collect the peas in the bowls. We did some potato printing, and dressed up our potatoes as superheroes! We then used the different vegetable characters in the sand and mud kitchen, making up imaginative stories together, allowing the older children to enact their own theme and encourage the younger ones to join in their stories!
This week our theme has been transport and people who help us, so we have had a vets and a doctors in our home corner, this was lovely to see the childrens sensitive side whilst tending their patients, and suggesting lots of different illnesses for their peers and some amazing resolutions to their ailments! This encourages the children to show empathy for others, and engage in a role play theme with their peers.
We have been out to the park and had physical activities on the field, we have done an obstacle course, catching the dinosaur eggs, matching the coloured cones, jumping and balancing and catch the tailfeather. The children have followed the instructions and are able to use the equipment safely and have coordinated themselves to extend the activities independantly in small groups.
We really enjoyed making pizzas, the children taste tested the ingredients they wanted and helped to cut up and decorate the pizzas, which we ate for snack, this enables the children to discuss their likes and dislikes and try new foods with their peers. We have Jaws and Claws visiting next Monday, and our next themes are going to be messy week and then Dinosaur country is going to be the following week!
