This week has been very, very hot, so we have had a variety of water play, from bathing animals, Peppa Pig splash play, water pipettes and lots of pouring! We also created a water channel obstacle course for our toys and cars, using pipes and guttering over 5 turf trays, the children found this so engaging, they enjoyed watching the water and the variety of resources that they children gathered themselves sliding from one tray into another. All these activities enabled the children's hand to eye coordination and turn taking, also encouraging them change their own clothes when they got soggy! Some of our children got really wet on ‘water day’ as we got Nellie the elephant out with her water sprinkling trunk and our little paddling pool, don’t worry if you missed out though as Nellie will be making an appearance on our Last Day Picnic!
With a little help from a visitor we have continued to crop our seeds from our flowers, collecting sweet pea seeds, and our wildflowers. We have replanted our leeks, as they are getting very large, and we have re-potted some yummy vegetables for the bigger children to take home with them in the summer holidays!
We made lots of pictures in our paint station this week, with the children selecting and mixing their own colours, a range of different paper and materials to use for gluing too. We have made cupcakes, biscuits, and ice creams with playdough, which the children really enjoyed, this encouraged discussion about which is the biggest, the smallest etc, and how many we can make out of the dough! We’ve also used our translucent bricks with coloured viewfinders to look through, we observed how they change the colours of the different bricks, and discovered that by adding two, we can make a third colour!
We are so excited to celebrate our last week of term with you all next week! Please remember our last day is ‘Picnic on the Field’ day, Thursday 21st from 9am – midday! Have a great weekend everyone!
