Our new stick insects have made a big impression on our children. We are learning how to look after them, spraying them with water giving them fresh privet to eat. We have observed how they shed their skin and we remove this from their tank once they’ve done so and we look through our binoculars and magnifying glasses to see how much they’ve grown over the week! Some children have even been brave enough to hold the little creatures!
As the weather has been very gloomy this week, we’ve spent a lot of time inside in the sensory area. The light up bricks and table give the room a very warm feeling and make building a calming activity. We’ve also had the light up drawing boards out in the sensory room allowing the children to watch their creations glow in the dark, with plenty of discussions on colours as we can change them with our controller!
As Christmas time approaches, we have begun our arts and crafts, with lots of glitter and cotton balls flying around the room, we have begun our Christmas display board so far featuring penguins, trees, and reindeer’s! Once it’s complete I will put it on the blog for all to see.
With a slight room change (to fit our Christmas tree in) we have gained a little table in the home corner, this has brought on excellent face-to-face associative play for our children. Making ‘dinners’ and ‘drinks’ for themselves and their peers encouraging imaginative role play and discussions with one another.
Lastly, we have begun to look at letter recognition this week matching little letters against the turf tray mat and thinking of objects that begin with certain letters. Alongside this we have done plenty of problem solving in our construction, when our projects fall, we have thought about how we can improve their structure to keep them stable!
We hope you all have a lovely weekend, please don’t forget the photographer will be in Monday morning for all our children and siblings to attend if they wish.
