This week we have continued our Halloween crafts. We have been making witches hats and decorating them with a variety of resources such as Halloween themed sprinkles, glitter and plastic spiders! The children also explored real pumpkins and helped to remove the innards. They used their imaginations to create their own pumpkin recipes using the inside of the pumpkins. We had lots of talk about what would happen if we were to plant a seed. We also broke a seed open to see what was inside. On Tuesday we then planted some pumpkin seeds to see what will happen over time. Each child predicted what will happen, most said turn into a pumpkin but they will need to remember to water the seeds each day. We also made some Halloween pumpkin biscuits. The children helped to weigh, mix and bake the biscuits. They then decorated them with orange icing and chocolate chips to make faces on their biscuits. On Friday we had a big Halloween party where the children came dressed up and enjoyed party games such as pulling a prize out of goo! They did lots of dancing to Halloween party music and had some party food too!
Other activities we have been doing this week we have continued the shoes and coat challenge. This game is to promote independence for each child. We ask the children to take off their shoes and coats and we have a race to see who can do it the fastest. Each time the children get quicker and quicker and this promotes them to be more independent at home and also in time for when they start primary school. We have also been playing games such "Brown bear brown bear, what do you see?" The adult read the book whilst the children had to choose the correct coloured animal and put it on their sheet. This helps the children to recognise colours and turn taking. We've also been playing with the tap a shape which the helps children's fine motor skills. The children used different coloured shapes to create a picture, using pins and wooden hammers. Children made houses and animals out of the shapes.
Next week is half term! We hope you all have a great week. We look forward to welcoming you back on Monday 2nd November 2020.
