What a week we've had, sadly we weren't in on Monday due to Her Majesty the Queens state funeral however, this had brought on great conversations and topics with the children. Some watched the service on the screen, some knew that we have a King now called Charles, and others who described their emotions on the passing of our Queen. It’s remarkable how much they've taken in from the events over the past 2 weeks and how comfortable they are to talk about it.
We've got a new number mat for our turf trays, and we’ve used several different resources to do different activities with it! At the beginning of the week, we had playdough on the mats, the children shaped their dough into the numbers – this is brilliant for number recognition. We also used the colours to match up with some small multicoloured people using tweezers to place them – this is great to help improve fine motor skills!
We also got a new shape mat for our turf trays, we used our wooden bricks to match up with triangles, squares, circles, and rectangles. We extended this idea into the garden by drawing large scale shapes using chalk onto the floor, then the children organised the stickle bricks into the correct shape by placing them inside the chalk shape.
Other activities in the garden this week have included using chalk to draw a road on the floor, so the children have more direction on their bikes, getting out our giant felt target to throw our Velcro balls at, making a messy tray with dried food, sand and chickpea pink foam not forgetting our amazing train tracks with obstacles included!
We’ve had another fantastic week and I’m super excited to do some cooking next week! We hope you all have a great weekend!
