This week we have continued to observe our garden, with many of the different flowers opening, the children were able to identify their different colours and properties, e.g., bigger, smaller, soft, spiky etc. and which ones they thought were the best then we collected seeds from the flowers for next year! The children spotted an insect in our garden, we discovered it was a beetle, it had upturned in a tyre, so an adult asked the children to find a small pot or something to catch the beetle, they all rushed off and found various containers to save the beetle. We also observed a snail heading straight for the plants, the children dove straight into action to save the plants, picking up the snail and we spoke about where to put it, so it doesn't dry out in the sun, the children found a spot to release him, fantastic rescuing everyone!!
We have been using scissors in our paint station to encourage hand eye coordination and talk about which shapes we have cut out and for what purpose. Maria also involved paint and shaving cream into our attention activity this week splatting them down with a rubber mallet. All our children show so much engagement in messy/art play and they all enjoyed making ‘ice cream’ with scented playdough and sprinkles in preparation for our beach trip on Friday, we have been counting down the sleeps until we go, everyone is so excited.
We’ve had lots of imaginary play going on this week, we’ve made a farm with hay, we had lots of fun with Peppa Pig at the ‘park’, and the dinosaurs have been stomping around inside and out! We also had a large-scale music session in the middle of the week, the children made different sounds with the different types of instruments, made several different tunes, comparing loud sounds to quiet sounds with lots of singing and tried to follow a rhythm together.
We’re so excited to have our annual beach trip on Friday, we hope to see you all there! A note for all who attend the toddler group that it will be CLOSED this week due to our beach trip, please pass the message on!
