On Monday we went in small groups to the woods to explore nature. Along the way we picked up sticks, leaves, flowers, bark, and grass. The children really enjoyed exploring the woods and listening to the birds in the trees. We even saw a horse on our walk to the woods and gave him a stroke, he was very friendly and each time we took a group of children, he welcomed them past. We took our buckets of objects from the woods, back to pre-school to use in the mud kitchen. We added scissors into the mud kitchen for children to cut the grass and leaves up to make dinners for each other. We also made a wigwam out of all the sticks and added happy land people to them to pretend that they were in a den. The children had to carefully lay the sticks up against each other to create the wigwam.
We have also been talking about the texture of the gloop this week. We added dinosaurs in to see if we could make footprints in it. This was successful and the children each agreed that the gloop quickly formed back together when we took the dinosaurs away and therefore the footprints disappeared. The children had great fun in doing this experiment.
The children were interested in large scale painting. They each had a space on the paper to paint their own pictures. Some children worked together to create a beach photo. We were really pleased to see teamwork whilst the children were at this activity.
Outside we have been using the balancing beams to practise our balancing. Children used their arms to help them balance and get across the beam without falling off.
What a great week! Please remember that we are on our Easter break. We will return on Monday 12th April 2021.
