We’ve had another amazing week at pre-school, from getting crafty and creative to practising our fine motor movements, it’s fair to say we’ve had lots of fun and kept super busy!
As the great British bird watch takes place this weekend, we got crafty and decided to make our very own binoculars out of toilet roll tubes! The children painted their own and we hung them out to dry. The following day they were all ready to use, so we took them outside into the garden to see what we could find through our binoculars. We saw many different birds including robins, crows, pigeons, and seagulls, plus we spotted a bird’s nest high up in the tree! All the children really enjoyed using their own binoculars to spot the different birds.
We also got crafty with a science experiment this week, we used pipettes to suck up watery paint and dropped the colours onto cotton pads, we could see that the paint spread and that if you put down two primary colours – one on top of the other – it would make a secondary colour. A lot of these creations have taken pride spots in our art gallery!
Fine motor skills have been practised a great deal this week. The children have enjoyed exploring our ‘Tap a Shape’ activity, this is where the children place a drawing pin in the middle of their chosen shape and tap them into the cork board with a hammer. We’ve also used the colour sorting magnet boards to practise concentration alongside fine motor skills, using a magnetic pen to drag the magnetic balls into the correct coloured slot! The children have been so enthusiastic and engaged with these activities.
We’ve done so much more this week inside and out, including riding bikes, creating ‘cupcakes’ and ‘pizza’ out of playdough, using various shapes to make new shapes, and building our dinosaurs little dens! Another brilliant week at pre-school, don’t forget to write down what birds you see over the weekend, see you next week!
