With just one term left for our school leavers, we have been revising our phonics this week introducing new sounds. Here at Langham Preschool we use ‘Jolly phonics’ to support our teaching, using songs and actions to encourage and make the learning process more enjoyable. All of the children have had lots of fun learning the songs, it’s been amazing to see some of the older children incorporating their understanding of phonics into their play, identifying the letters to each other and finding words beginning with letters they’re familiar with!
Recently we have introduced an ‘attention bucket’ for all the children, this activity allows the children to gather towards the adult led activity - if it takes their interest. The children all sit and watch as new and intriguing items are pulled out of the bucket and shown to the group. More recently we have extended this activity by showing the children how to create a picture after we’ve explored the bucket, this might be a rainbow or dusting flour onto black paper, making marks with our fingers - this continues to grab the attention of the children for longer (if they wish) a great step to help our school leavers and great fun for everyone to watch!
We have many fruit, vegetables and herbs growing very well in our garden, huge thanks to all the adults who have donated and to all our children who water them regularly and help look after them! We all enjoy watching and talking about the process so far and what we shall achieve once they’re ready to harvest!
Our felt boards have been very popular this week, we have many different felts to stick on including water animals, dinosaurs, bugs, numbers and letters. Some of our children this week have been creating stories together using the felts, sticking them on as they talk each other through the story! Whilst other children have been placing our numbers and letters into the correct order or just creating wonderfully imaginative scenes.
Finally, our arts and crafts have given us a glue table this week! That’s right, we’ve stuck just about anything straight onto a turf tray with PVA! The children have had so much fun with this, using the different materials provided and collecting their own resources from outside, allowing them to explore new textures and colours! By the end of the week it was completely covered and quite honestly beautiful!
We hope you all have a fantastic bank holiday weekend, we’ll be back from Tuesday with more fun and excitement as always!
