This week we have had another delivery of new resources, the children have particularly liked the new dark den, we have used lots of light up and sensory toys to explore the tent. We have also got some new space toys, including wooden planets, small plastic rockets and astronauts. The children liked playing with these toys and has encouraged lots of discussion about space, the planets, and our world.
We have used different types of crafts this week, we used the light table to trace leaf patterns, we did a large-scale finger-painting activity, which we added flour to the mixture! We then made a giant mess with jelly, custard, rice pudding, fruit, and lots of sprinkles, which the children really got involved with, using scoops to make ‘ice cream’ in cones and ‘cakes’ in cupcake cases. We spoke about the different textures we could feel, smells and fruit we could see inside the wobbly jelly!
We have been very engaged with giant stories on the carpet, with Maria enacting the characters and encouraging the children to tell the story and guess the plot lines, great fun! We have also had many moments of music and movement, at times getting the box of instruments out to have loud music to accompany our nursery rhymes, other times we’ve danced along to the Alexa!
We have enjoyed lots of construction, with the mobilo, and different types of bricks, making houses for the animals and people in our games. We have had different number and shape matching activities, with people, bricks, nuts and bolts and irregular shapes, which encourages discussions about numbers, shapes and colour recognition and hand eye coordination.
Need to give a huge shout out to The Shepherd and Dog, our local pub and restaurant for raising a fantastic £370 for us! Thank you so much for this generous donation, it will go to much needed new resources! We hope you all have a fantastic weekend!
