What an amazing week we have had! With a 4-day week due to Bank Holiday Monday we have been super busy. Let's start by talking about the great outdoors, thanks to the lovely weather, we have made use of the huge field next to us and begun our PE sessions. We got the huge parachute out encouraging us to talk about all the different colours we could see, crawling underneath it, standing on top of it, placing small balls inside as we flap the parachute to make them jump! We've been throwing and catching balls and bean bags, following instructions running from one spot to another, and travelling across the field in different ways like skipping, running, crawling, and even imitating different animals as we go!
We have used our turf trays to create sensory scenes for our happy land characters, placing flour, sand, rice, and oats to give a base for our scene. The children enjoyed making marks with characters and vehicles as well as using their hands, we spoke about the different textures we experienced with the sand being cold and damp, to the flour being soft and light!
We have explored the paint inside and out – inside we used big paint brushes alongside cotton buds to differentiate between the big marks and the small, some children created faces, rainbows and even wrote their name by using the cotton buds! Outside we used a giant roll of paper laying it out all the way across the garden and allowing the children to mix colours, make handprints and general marks with the paint brushes!
Amongst this, we have had many different resources available for our children to explore with, many use them to cooperate with their imaginative play. For example, building ‘robots’ from wooden shapes, ‘houses’ with the magnetic tiles, making animal sounds when exploring the animal park tray, and burying ‘treasure’ within the sand trays!
