Happy Chinese New Year! This week we welcomed the Lunar year of the tiger and experienced some Chinese New Year themed activities.
We kicked it off with paper lantern making on Monday, with some lined paper already prepared by staff for the children to practise their scissor control cutting the paper along the lines, then staff stapled their lanterns together and invited the children to decorate them with glue, sequins, and glitter! Tuesday saw the children attempting to copy Chinese symbols using paint, this was quite tricky, but the children gave it such a good go and were so proud of their finished products! We also had a turf tray full of dried pasta with cups and chopsticks, the children were shown how to use the chopsticks to pick up the pasta and place them in the cups, they were all eager to give it a go and some children even came up with the idea of using the cups as drums and the chopsticks as drumsticks – this was a brilliant extension of the activity.
Our messy play has been so much fun this week. We mixed rice and lentils into our mud for our mud kitchen, we’ve used paper straws to blow paint around our paper, we have used our hands to smear paint and make marks on the table as well as having plenty of water and sand play available.
This week the children have all been so engaged in their imaginative play, be that independently or with their peers, creating monsters, dragons, buildings and so much more with various constructive materials. It’s been wonderful to see them all interact with their toys and use role play with figures and themes throughout.
We would like to say another welcome to all our new friends who have joined us over the last few weeks, everyone is settling in so well and enjoying their time at pre-school. We hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to new adventures next week!
