This week we have been so engaged with each other and our activities at pre-school. The older children who will be heading off to primary school in September have all been transitioning very well, meeting their new teachers and peers. At pre-school these children have been really focused on improving their writing and cutting skills, as well as their phonics and numbers, their concentration has been amazing, and their sense of self pride is very rewarding.
Our very own junk model castle has made a few appearances lately, using other resources to create scenes and scenarios for the children to use their imaginative and role play. We have also used materials to create a ‘farm’ this week collecting, branches, leaves, hay, sand, and some red lentils (from the cupboard) to make a sensory turf tray. We discussed the different textures within the tray and the different sounds we make when stomping the animals onto the materials.
Our beautiful garden is blossoming so well we are extremely proud of Clair and the children, they have all taken so much time and care to look after our growing garden. We have picked carrots for our rabbit friend woody and our beans are getting bigger by the day as well as our wildflowers that bring colour and life to our garden.
Also, in the garden this week we have been experimenting with different resources in the water trays, from jugs, cups, sea creatures, to pipets and watering cans. This has encouraged gross and fine motor skills for the children to explore. Our water play will expand next week as we plan to get the hose out to cool the children off in the expected heat that plans to come our way!
Finally, we have been having lots of fun on the field behind pre-school, kicking and catching footballs, pushing our peers along in wheelbarrows, creating obstacle courses, doing yoga and playing ‘duck, duck, goose’ altogether. Another fantastic week and another one on its way as we come closer to the summer holidays.
