This week we have had lots more fun in the garden, as we have had such good weather, the children have enjoyed feeding Woody from the crop of our homegrown carrots. Our onions, leeks, carrots, chive, and mint are still growing so we have continued to look after those too! Other exploration in the garden has included water play, we have had happy land people in boats, sea animals and of course scooping and pouring using a variety of resources. Many of our turf tray set ups encourage real world play and lots of chatter with peers. Another popular area in the garden this week has been the mud kitchen, here we have used many natural resources to create a potion making station including, fruit tea water, red lentils, dried pasta, leaves, and sticks! The children have enjoyed mixing different ingredients together and transferring them to trays, pots, and bowls!
We have been looking at sounds of words, using our new phonics mat and spoons to match different letter sounds to objects, for example ‘t’ for turtle, ‘s’ for sun. This has encouraged great focus for the children as well as learning new sounds and words. This week we have had lots of musical opportunities and the children have been entertained a lot by this, from dancing to our favourite songs, to using musical instruments to accompany our nursery rhymes.
Another topic we have looked at this week is matching and identification, we played games in small groups with our new wooden parts and games with items in the bag, this enabled the children to identify a variety of colours and shapes, match them up with our sea animal mat and guess without looking at the items, which was very fun! Extending our discussion of colours, the children have done a variety of craft activities, including gluing, painting canvases, and stamping with corks using a giant ink pad.
Another amazing week for everyone at Langham Preschool this week! A gentle reminder that we will be closed on Monday (19th September) due to Her Majesty the Queen’s State Funeral. So, we will see you Tuesday! Have a lovely weekend all!
