This week we’d like to introduce you to our new stick insect pets, Twig, Thicket, Branch, Slim, Stick and Leaf! Yes, that’s right, alongside our bunny Woody and fish, we now have baby stick insects! So, in preparation the children went out foraging for sticks and twigs to make their new house a home before they arrived. This has brought on so much discussion with how we take care of them, the things they need to survive and since having them it’s given the children confidence to hold our new friends in the palm of their hands!
As we headed towards the weekend, we spoke about the upcoming Remembrance Sunday and made some 3D poppies for our learning journals. We also used some potato printing to make some 2D poppies.
We’ve had a very generous donation again of books, games and puzzles this week – a huge thank you to the lovely families who think of us. The children really enjoyed exploring the new jigsaw puzzles, we’ve observed how determined all these children are and will do their upmost to complete their task individually.
We also had a new arrival of a Mixing station table. This week we have used small, coloured objects to encourage the children to categorise them by colours into the separate bowls. We’ve also placed the scales in the middle to encourage discussions of heavy and light objects.
Genuinely the weather is getting colder and wetter, so we’ve decided to bring our water play indoors so they don’t miss out and when the weather isn’t too bad, we often get our wellies on and have a splash outside.
Finally, lots of construction has taken place this week but with use of instructions. The children will pick a design they want and attempt to build them by following the instructions on the card independently, some children would prefer to collect the correct materials and have the adult help them to put it altogether! All in all, another brilliant and productive week!
